Important Notes:

  • The duty of correct packaging of the goods is the responsibility of the Shipper (person/company where the shipment begins). The goods must be correctly packed from the moment of collection.
  • When contracting a shipment, the Sender undertakes to inform Alfaloc of what the goods are, strictly in accordance with the material truth. Failure to comply with this rule may lead to non-compliance with the shipment, unforeseeable damage to the goods, administrative offences and consecutive fines and/or others.

2. Packing advice for most loads

Golden rules in packaging

In accordance with ISTA’s international determinations, alfaloc recommends:

  1. Preferably new box, made of double corrugated cardboard, with an adequate resistance to the weight to be transported;

  2. Box with a size very close to that of your goods: choose a suitable box so that the goods do not swing inside the box or, on the contrary, the box does not burst;

  3. Internal packaging (minimum of 5 cm) for all sides of the package, including the bottom and top of the package, and with a reinforcement at the corners;

  4. Packaging between each element, with a material appropriate to the density of the materials transported, and so that there is no empty space inside the box;

  5. Immobilization and absolute fixation of the goods inside the box, so that there is no movement inside;

  6. Isolation of all possible openings in the box by means of adhesive tape. At least 2 layers.

  7. “This side up”: If it makes sense for your goods, stick a label on the box that indicates which side should be facing up.

  8. “Fragile”: in standard service this label is a mere indication that does not guarantee that your goods will be treated with special care since it is a standard service. In cases where your goods are fragile, talk to Customer Service on 917 777 100 or here in the chat or talk to your Customer Manager to be advised on a service appropriate to your goods.

3. Reuse boxes – is it possible?

Don’t reuse boxes

A used box loses 50 to 70% of its strength characteristics.

  • Knowing that in express transport your packages go through automated distribution processes, it is important that the boxes have the best possible conditions to protect your cargo.

Customs immediately stops the shipment in case of non-compliance.

  • Reused cardboard boxes may have symbols of hazardous or flammable materials inscribed, or labels that match the current content. This can be a problem for readings or for customs who immediately stop any packaging that shows any non-conformity.

4. Alfaloc Packaging

Alfaloc has its own packaging, with special messages for its recipient.

Alfaloc packages are free for international shipments.

You can order packaging for your company in Material Order (see here how) in your myalfaloc.

Important note: the duty of correct packaging of the goods is the responsibility of the shipper. The goods must be correctly packed from the moment of collection.

For more information about the conditions of the service, please visit Alfaloc’s General Conditions of Service.

5. Insured Shipping

Insured shipping, safeguarded value of the goods

Situations of loss or damage to the goods are unpleasant and, although rare, they do happen (in the case of standard shipments, i.e. when the customer does not choose a personalized service).

By law, in the event of loss or damage to the goods, the carrier’s liability is limited to a monetary value for each kg of goods transported, regardless of the actual value of the goods.

For this reason, alfaloc recommends that its customers take out insurance whenever the value of the goods is significant. The value of this service has a minimum of €9.85. So, closely, it protects a lot!
