Same day delivery
How does it work and when is it worthwhile?

How does it work?

Same day delivery, also known in logistics as Same Day Delivery, is a fast transportation service that ensures that products are delivered to the customer on the same day the order is placed.

A need that can exist for the national market or even for international transportation.

Delivery in mainland Portugal today

Yes, it is possible.

For urgent, no margin for error, critical situations with sensitive implications for your client:

  • A machine at a standstill waiting for a replacement part
  • Gifts for an event taking place this evening
  • Raw materials for continuous production at risk of stopping
  • A drug for a patient in a delicate situation

There are many situations in which a same-day delivery is essential.

alfaloc offers a National Rocket service that can solve all these problems.

Same day delivery on the international market

The challenge is clearly greater and in some cases impossible to achieve. But for possibly more common destinations, with a history of trade, alfaloc is able to offer various same-day transportation solutions.

For nearby and traditionally more relevant markets such as Spain, France or even Italy, the Rocket service could be the solution.

A dedicated van that starts its journey whenever the customer wants and without stopping or passing through a logistics warehouse.

For more distant destinations, solutions for same-day deliveries will depend on the goods and the planning of the transportation itself.

When the service is planned in advance, even with pick-up and delivery on the same day, there are solutions such as Charter, a dedicated plane available for that service only. Although it’s an operationally complex service, it can take place on a same-day basis.

If it’s not possible to plan ahead and the goods to be transported are small, Courier on Board is clearly the most effective option. Customized transport, carried out by an alfaloc courier who travels on commercial flights and delivers your goods by hand to your customer.

Is it worth it?

Isn't that an uneconomical option?

Is it worth hiring a delivery service with these characteristics? Surely much less economical?

The importance of the cargo, the value of this delivery to your customer or any penalties associated with late deliveries may dictate this option.

But you can also do it in a more planned way, aware of its impact, you can just do it strategically. A surprise, same-day delivery can bring enormous added value to your customer:

  • The cost of transportation, even on the same day, can be a very small part of the total value of the goods. And in this way, you will surprise your customer very positively.

  • Same-day delivery services almost always require a dedicated vehicle. In this way, you can make the most of the vehicle’s space with more goods. This can even make transportation more economical per product or box transported.

  • Simply for safety. Because of the sensitivity of the cargo being transported. Dedicated shipping usually doesn’t involve stopping at logistics warehouses or transferring cargo between means. This reduces the risk of damage associated with handling
